Hat Season

I collected wooden hat molds long before I began using them to wet-felt hats. Carving and sculpting fueled my interest in the molds, which I viewed  as works of art in themselves. All my molds have outlived most of their usefulness to milliners who block hats, and the vast majority pre-date WWII. I alter my designs to accommodate the modern tastes and styles of my customers. Rather than creating custom hats, I create one-of-a-kind pieces of art, and take them to shows in order to find the right heads. This allows me to fully exercise my creativity rather than trying to recreate someone else's vision.
